5 Makeup Tips to Try This Week

My aunt and uncle gave me a $50 gift card for Christmas that I’ve been holding on to for something fun. When e.l.f. (eyes lips face) had a 30% off everything Tax Day sale, I knew it was time to get shopping! My AMAZING makeup haul arrived yesterday and I can’t wait to dig in. I want to learn more about makeup in general, and am particularly excited to try out these 5 tips and tutorials.

My eyes never look very open, and I never realized I could fake their size by using makeup. I know you can create illusions using tips and tricks for other things, but it never occurred to me to try it with makeup to open up my eyes. I love Stephanie Lange‘s channel, especially her tutorials on creating a cut crease.

I already like to wear winged liquid eyeliner on a daily basis, but I bought a few pots of cream eyeliner to try out. I love Selina Lundstrom‘s tips on using a cream eyeliner to create a winged look. She also shares how to use other types of eyeliner too, so it’s helpful all around!

I’m really interested in learning how to contour and highlight and picked up some powder and cream bronzers and highlighters to try it out. I like this tutorial from Lauren Curtis because she doesn’t just show you how to contour and highlight, she explains what they are and why you’d use them.

One thing I’ve been trying to work on for awhile now but haven’t quite got the hang of yet is foundation and concealer. No matter what I do, it always just looks dry on my skin- whether I use powder, liquid or a combo of both. It’s probably because I have no idea how to apply it properly. That’s why I love Jaclyn Hill‘s video!

One last thing I need to start learning is how to do makeup when you wear glasses! A lot of makeup tutorials I love look wonderful when I try them but get lost beneath my glasses. Sinead from The Makeup Chair has some great tips!

I’ll do a few product reviews as I test out the ridiculous haul I bought (I’m not kidding- there are over 25 items in it!) and possibly a giveaway of a product I really loved, too! Stay tuned!

What does your daily makeup routine look like? Any tips you’d love to share?

  1. I have never heard of cream eyeliner before. I should try!

Well, when I go out nowadays, I hide my eyes behind my sunglasses, so I skip the eye mak-up 🙂 I really like lipstick that stays on your lips for hours without refreshing it. Since I’ve discovered that I do not buy regular lipstick.

  2. I’ve been wanting to finally learn how to apply makeup! I’m definitely bookmarking this for later.

  3. Awesome tips Katie! I’ll definitely have to check these out! I love elf products, for the price, they’re SO WORTH IT.

    1. I agree! I don’t know how Elf is able to sell their products for so cheap, but I love it!

  4. Love this post! Great for someone like me, who doesn’t wear much makeup ever and needs good pointers for application. My daughter quickly passed me up when it comes to beauty stuff. lol

    1. Haha awwh! Well if you OR your daughter have any good tips, feel free to share them! 🙂 🙂
