Wordless Wednesday: Love

Since this whole week is devoted to Valentine’s Day, it’s appropriate that today’s photo is one from my parent’s wedding day. They got married on February 14th, 1976, which means it would have been their 39th anniversary this year.

I was only engaged for a little over two months when Mom passed away, so I hadn’t made many wedding plans yet. She spent the whole time in the hospital and I saw her whenever I could but she spent the majority of the time sleeping, or confused. I tried to ask her as many details about her own wedding as I could, feeling guilty that I’d never thought to ask her earlier, but I was only able to find out that she bought her wedding dress with my Grams at the mall, and that her best friend wore a red velvet dress. There was also a cake with red flowers on it, and the reception was small, at my Dad’s parent’s house (where the above photo was taken). She’d told me many times about when she and Dad met, their first date, etc., but nothing about their wedding. I know I could ask others about it, but it would have been so amazing to hear her love story, in her words. I guess you never really think of your parents as having a love story.

Husband always makes fun of me because my “Wordless” Wednesday posts are always quite the opposite- filled with lots of words! So I’ll stop here. If you get the chance, find out your parent’s, or your grandparent’s love story while you still can. I bet it’s pretty wonderful. <3

  1. This is a lovely photo! This story has given me an idea that I never asked my mother about my parents’ wedding… Well… too late now…

  2. What a great post, Katie. It’s one of those things, I think, that you just don’t think to ask about. So many of us don’t. But you have a great picture of that beautiful day, and you know what they say – a picture is worth a thousand words. Even though your mom never got the chance to tell you the story herself, at least you have a moment in time captured from that day. And they both look so happy in it! I don’t have one of those. I don’t have many photos of my childhood at all, which is a bummer, because I love photos.

PS – I don’t have many wordless Wednesdays either. 😉

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one!

  3. Awww so cute Katie! Your parents looks so happy! I wish my mother would share her love story with me. She’s so private with that!
